Teach us to discern spirits and to maintain our spiritual balance, knowing that You are the Creator of all heavenly and earthly hosts.

How to Honor Your Parents Without Trading with Them

Dear listeners, dear fellow travelers!

We face today one of the deepest, but also most painful and complex themes of human existence. The Fourth Commandment says: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you."

Very often, we have understood this commandment as a spiritual marketplace. As children, we are taught that if we are "good" and obey our parents blindly, God will reward us. If we overstep, cosmic punishment will strike us. This develops into fear-based trading, where we try to pay off the system debt with our actions, attempting to buy our parents' (and through them, God's) approval. But even more dangerous is when parents themselves assume the role of spiritual mediators – a sort of Pharisaic customs officers – exploiting the child's fear and guilt, claiming that their personal will is the will of the Original Source.

But Jesus Christ came to overturn the tables of this spiritual marketplace. He did not come to abolish respect, but He came to free us from fear-based trading, so that we might love our roots in true freedom.

Why is honoring parents so fundamental in the first place?

Is it just one rule among others? No. It is a profound understanding of the holiness of the material world and the human body. Your physical body, your biological origin, is not a prison or an illusion – it is the Creator's brilliant and holy design.

This expectation is universal. Looking outside the Christian space, we see that this truth is deeply written into the internal code of humanity. An old Chinese proverb says: "Of all virtues, filial piety is the first" (Baixiao xian wei shou). Taoism teaches us to respect the natural flow of things – you cannot deny the roots of a tree without drying up its branches. In Buddhism, the human body is seen as a rare and precious vehicle on the path to enlightenment, and parents, who gave us this physical shell, must be treated with the deepest gratitude. In Kabbalah, it is taught that parents are those physical channels, sephirot, through which the Infinite Light descends into the material world. In Krishnaite and Vedic traditions, the mother and father are seen as one's first earthly teachers who deserve divine honor.

In all these traditions, across religions and societies, honoring parents is connected with happiness and life. Why? Because it is the foundation of our local life order, our earthly network. When a person wages war against their biological and cultural roots, they generate immense friction in their lives. A free and spiritual person respects their culture and parents to integrate peacefully with the world. This is not done out of a servile mind, but out of common sense and love for one's neighbor.

What to do when a parent's will collides with your personal calling or indeed God's truth?

Yet, we all know that parents are flawed. Here, the Bible breaks through any religious facade. Recall the New Testament story (Mt 21:28-32) of a father who sent his two sons to work in the vineyard. The first son answered, "Go, sir!" – but did not go. He pretended to respect. His mouth produced pious religious word-foam, genuine hypocrisy, but there was no substance in his actions.

The second son, however, answered the father, "I will not!" This is an honest rebellion. It is an explosion of human independence, of his ego and raw emotion. But later, he regretted and went. Jesus asks: which of the two did the father's will? The second, of course. True respect is not the mechanical repetition of dogmas or a show of politeness. God prefers an honest storm a thousand times over Pharisaic leaven. True honoring of parents means being genuine with them, even if it means setting boundaries.

Or look at Samson in the Old Testament (Judges 14). He was a man whom the Creator had equipped with immense physical strength and passion. When he wanted to take a Philistine woman as his wife, his parents wept: "Is there no woman among the daughters of your brethren... that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?" But Samson said to his father: "Get her for me, for she pleases me well!"

Samson ignored his parents' wisdom and local custom. His choice brought immense life chaos, conflict, and ultimately his own physical destruction – this is karma, the neutral engine of cause and effect in this world. If you tear yourself away from your parents' wisdom, you may get hurt. Yet, the Bible writes a stunning sentence: "But his father and mother did not know that it was of the Lord..." God's Grace and His deep plan were greater than Samson's parents' fears and traditions. Samson's story teaches that although ignoring parents brings earthly pain, parents cannot be the ultimate judge between you and the Original Source.

Stepping Under Grace and Crucifixion

The core of Christianity is this: the Creator did not remain a distant abstract code. The Word became flesh, taking on a biological interface, the mother Mary and earthly foster-father Joseph, so that we could identify with Him. Jesus showed us how to live. He lived in perfect connection with the Heavenly Father, yet did not despise the earthly.

Recall Him there on the cross of Calvary. The cosmic covenant is being renewed, the world's debt certificates are tearing, redemption is taking place. But what does Jesus do in the midst of this universal upheaval? He looks down and sees His physical mother, Mary. He says to the disciple: "Behold, your mother!" and to the mother: "Behold, your son!" Even in His hour of death, Jesus takes care of His mother's material, practical, and emotional well-being. This is true honor. This is not trading. This is pure, selfless love that respects the earthly hardware.

Dear friends, honoring parents in a free, reborn life means letting go of ego-based trading – Gelassenheit. It means stepping into objective uncertainty, forgiving your parents for not being and not having been perfect. They are just humans who gave you life. We do not worship them, we do not let them spiritually manipulate us or frighten us with guilt. We acknowledge them with dignity, hospitality, and sober discernment, paying them back with earthly help and respect, doing so genuinely, like pure sour cream.

Your only true debt has been forgiven. You do not need to crampingly keep your karma balance in the positive before your parents. You can simply love them.

Practical Roadmap:

Dear fellow travelers, we take a step forward today. We spoke of roots, freedom, and how Christ overturned the tables of the spiritual marketplace so that we do not have to trade with our parents' approval and God's love. But what happens when the Sunday sermon ends and Monday begins? How does this freedom of grace – this Meister Eckhart's Gelassenheit, conscious letting go – actually look in everyday life?

Let the Word become flesh in our daily deeds. Here are clear, systemic, and pastoral instructions on how to live as a free person, honoring your parents with dignity, genuineness, and without Pharisaic leaven.

1. Abandon the "Corban" Hypocrisy: The Holiness of Material Care Problem: There is a common misconception that spirituality is something ethereal and the body is trivial. Sometimes people hide behind high spiritual phrases to dodge practical responsibility. New Perspective: Jesus sharply criticized the Pharisees (Mk 7:11) who used a clever loophole called "Corban" (a gift dedicated to God). They said to their elderly parents: "The property with which I could help you is dedicated to God," leaving their parents in physical deprivation. Practical Instruction: The physical world designed by the Creator is not an illusion. Your parents' aging bodies need real support. Honoring means noticing material needs: mowing the lawn, booking doctor appointments, financial support, or simply bringing warm food. Do not offer "prayers and good thoughts" where a shovel, a wallet, and your time are needed. This is genuine "pure sour cream" – acting in the local life arrangement, which connects us peacefully with reality.
2. Set Healthy Boundaries: Heavenly Diplomacy Against Manipulation Problem: What to do if parents are toxic, demanding, or use their position to keep you in a constant state of fear and guilt? New Perspective: In a fallen world, mediators often try to frighten and emotionally manipulate us. Even parents can (sometimes subconsciously) step into the role of a spiritual mediator or manipulator, trying to control the Creator's code written in your heart. But contact with them must not be based on a servile mind. Practical Instruction: Just as the archangel Michael or Jesus in the wilderness did not let themselves be provoked, you must maintain sober discernment and heavenly diplomacy. You have the right and duty to say "no" to manipulation, emotional violence, and attempts to divert you from your life's purpose. Honoring does not always mean closeness. Sometimes honoring means that you love and support them from a safe distance, avoiding fights and keeping your inner peace intact. You respect them as a human being, without letting them crash the system inside you.
3. End the Internal Bookkeeping: Nail Guilt to the Cross Problem: Many children live in eternal debt slavery, feeling that they can "never pay back" what their parents have done for them. New Perspective: This is a return to the old system, the marketplace of karma. But the Apostle Paul says that the certificate of debt is nailed to the cross. You cannot pay back the giving of life. Life flows in only one direction – forward. Practical Instruction: Reckon yourself to be dead to this "cosmic trading." If you help your parents, do not do it to redeem your existence, earn an inheritance, or quiet a guilty conscience. Do it from the freedom of grace. Use a spiritual "incognito mode": when you help, let not your left hand know what your right is doing. Do not keep an internal ledger of how much trouble you have taken. Simply act, effortlessly and from a pure source.
4. Speak in the Local Language: Find a Common, Human Interface Problem: There is often an ideological or theological chasm between generations. We try to change our parents, to "enlighten" them, or to argue with their convictions, generating only friction. New Perspective: The Creator became flesh to communicate with us in a form we could understand. Paul teaches us to become "all things to all men" to build bridges. Practical Instruction: Do not force your "correct" theology, lifestyle, or burden of dogmas onto your parents. Respect the local custom. Speak with them in a language they understand. If your elderly mother wants to talk simply about her garden or neighbors, be there and listen to her genuinely. Meet her where she is, not where you want her to be. This is the highest form of love for one's neighbor – giving up the need to be "spiritually superior" and simply being a human child with them.

Give us courage to set boundaries where old patterns and manipulation try to drag us back to the marketplace of fear. But give us also humility and soft hands to notice their physical and daily needs.

Teach us to help without keeping an internal ledger, to love without setting conditions, and to listen genuinely, leaving aside our own desire for spiritual height.

Teach us to honor them in true freedom, genuinely and sincerely, without betraying that code which You have written in our own hearts. May our relationships be free from fear and filled with Your inexhaustible grace. In the name of Christ, our living Word, Amen.

Marriage, Biblical Realism, and Obedience to the Law

Dear listeners,

Today we look at a theme that requires honesty, openness, and the courage to read the Bible exactly as it is written, not through the cultural filters of later centuries.

In Western society, and also here in Estonia, it is self-evident that marriage means the union of one man and one woman. But when we open Holy Scripture and read it carefully, a much broader, more complex, and sometimes uncomfortable picture opens up to us.

It is crucial when reading the Bible to distinguish between God's original ideal, His tolerance of human reality, and those rules given specifically for church leadership.

Is "husband of one wife" a command for everyone?

Let us start with an important clarification that is often misquoted. If we look in the Bible for a direct requirement to be the "husband of one wife," we do not find it in the words of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, but in the letters of the Apostle Paul (1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:6).

And here you are completely correct when you notice an important detail that is often overlooked in sermons: Paul writes these words as a criterion for church overseers (bishops) and elders, not as a universal command for every ordinary member. The fact that a higher and more specific standard was set for leaders points to the historical reality that in the early church there could be (and likely were) members who had multiple wives, especially if they had come to Christianity from cultures where polygamy was the norm.

In the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 19:4–6), Jesus addresses marriage, but He does so in response to a question about divorce, not directly about polygamy. He refers back to the Creator's original design in the Garden of Eden: "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female'... and 'the two shall become one flesh'?" This is monogamy as a spiritual and physical ideal, but it is not formulated as a legal prohibition for everything else.

The Realism of the Old Testament

We cannot ignore the fact that a large portion of the Old Testament heroes of faith – Abraham, Jacob, David, not to mention Solomon – lived in multiple marriages. God did not directly punish them for the number of their wives. Furthermore, the Mosaic Law even regulated polygamy, protecting, for example, the rights of the first wife if a man takes a second wife (Exodus 21:10).

Although God tolerates this practice, Holy Scripture shows us ruthlessly the pain born of polygamy. Sarah and Hagar, Leah and Rachel, the bloody feuds of David's sons – all these stories show that deviating from the Creator's original design sooner or later brings envy, injustice, and family tragedy. God's tolerance does not always equal His approval.

Divorce, Justice, and the Rights of Both Parties

Marriage is not a one-sided relationship of ownership, but a bilateral covenant where rights and obligations belong to both the man and the woman. When we look at Old Testament laws, we see that under certain conditions, a man had the right to give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away (Deuteronomy 24:1).

Through modern eyes, this might seem like a dismissal of a woman's rights, but in its historical context, the certificate of divorce (a get in Hebrew) was actually a legal protection for the woman. This document proved that she was free. There was no prohibition against remarriage when divorced with a certificate — on the contrary, giving the woman the legal right to remarry and avoid being left socially and economically defenseless was one of the primary purposes of the document.

Furthermore, the woman was not entirely without rights in biblical culture. The Law of Moses (Exodus 21:10–11) already stipulated that if a husband failed to provide for his wife's basic needs — food, clothing, and marital rights — she had a valid reason and the freedom to walk away from the covenant.

The general modern Christian understanding often relies on the words of the prophet Malachi: "For I hate divorce, says the Lord" (Malachi 2:16). Because of this, the church has often strongly condemned divorce. But we must be honest — although God hates divorce because it always brings pain and breaks His original ideal, it is nevertheless a permitted concession in a fallen world due to the "hardness of your hearts," as Jesus said. The New Testament permits divorce under certain extreme conditions (such as in cases of infidelity or abandonment by an unbelieving spouse).

We must critically admit that historically, when addressing this topic, the church has often sidelined women's rights. Due to spiritual pressure, women have frequently been forced to remain in emotionally, physically, or spiritually destructive marriages, with leaders unilaterally emphasizing the sanctity of marriage while ignoring the fact that the other party had already severely broken the covenant. Purpose of marriage is to support life and dignity, not to destroy it. Before God, both parties have a responsibility to uphold the union, but they also share an equal right to safety and love.

Submission to Rulers and Modern time

Why then, in the modern Western church, do we believe that a Christian has only one spouse?

In addition to the Edenic ideal referred to by Jesus and the standard for leaders presented by Paul, the principle of a Christian's duty to submit to state authority is of decisive importance here:

"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God..." (Romans 13:1)

Our societal laws and cultural legal space prohibit polygamy. Since monogamy is fully consistent with God's original ideal and does not force a Christian to sin in any way (as would, for example, a law prohibiting praying to God), it is a Christian's absolute duty to follow the laws of their country of residence. We do not live in Old Testament Israel, but in 21st-century Estonia, and we submit to the laws of this state.

Marriage Practices in the Bible: The Simplicity of Eden

When we talk about marriage and try to understand the original meaning of the Bible, we must also look at how marriages were actually concluded. Today, we are used to state administration, legal contracts, fancy church ceremonies, and long wedding celebrations. This is all beautiful and helps celebrate the event, but if we look at the very first marriage in the Bible – the union of Adam and Eve – we do not find anything of the sort.

In the Garden of Eden, there was no priest to officially pair them. There were no witnesses, no marriage certificate, and no festive meal. When God brought the woman to the man, Adam's reaction was simply a deep and immediate recognition. He said:

"This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh!" (Genesis 2:23)

This was the entire "ceremony." No other rituals, no administration. It was the complete acceptance of two people of each other and a spiritual and physical union set by the Creator – the realization that "they shall become one flesh."

We see the same simplicity later in the early days of the Old Testament. For example, when Isaac married Rebekah, the Bible does not speak of long ceremonies. We read simply: Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother's tent; he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her (Genesis 24:67). Yes, as centuries passed and culture developed, wedding celebrations – like the famous wedding at Cana in the New Testament – became communally important and grand celebrations lasting for weeks. But the deepest truth of the Bible about the nature of marriage shows us that its spiritual core does not consist in external ceremonialism or bureaucracy, but in a genuine covenant, mutual recognition, and growing together into one.

Summary

The church over the centuries has rightfully elevated monogamy because it most purely reflects the relationship of Christ and His church (Ephesians 5) – one Bridegroom and one Bride. But we must maintain intellectual honesty: the biblical text itself has historically been much broader and more tolerant regarding polygamy than our modern strict Western tradition wants to admit. God meets people where they are in their culture, gradually leading them back to His original and perfect will.

Lord, we thank You for the honesty of Your Word. We thank You that You do not hide from us the complexity of human history or the weaknesses of the fathers of faith. Give us wisdom to read Holy Scripture with open eyes and an honest heart, seeing the difference between Your perfect ideal and Your great grace with which You bear us in our shortcomings.

Help us hold marriage in honor just as You intended it – as a committed, faithful, and selfless union. Grant us the mindset to respect the laws of our country and to live an exemplary life in our community, being light and salt. Cleanse us from Pharisaic blind condemnation and grant us deep perception of Your will. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Perfection of God's Creation

Dear brothers and sisters, we live in an era where self-expression has been elevated to the highest pedestal. People are constantly searching for ways to distinguish themselves from others, to decorate, tattoo, and alter their bodies. But today, I invite you to pause and reflect on an eternal truth: human beings, as created by God, are already perfect. We do not need external marks, incisions, or superfluous decorations to be valuable in the eyes of our Creator. Our bodies do not need any other mark of ownership, nor any attempt to look like any other being.

The Body as God's Temple and Creation

In the Old Testament, we are given clear instructions on how to treat our bodies. God told the people of Israel clearly that they must not make any cuttings in their flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on themselves. This prohibition was not just one of many rules, but a reminder that the human body is holy. The Creator has formed us in His image, and every added mark or incision is like expressing doubt in His masterpiece.

Historically, marking — branding, tattoos, or scarification — has been associated with ownership. This is how slaves and animals were marked to show their belonging to a master. (Likewise, ritual marks and costumes of some indigenous peoples may have been reminders of other spiritual entities or visiting races). But God does not call us into slavery or the worship of foreign spirits, but into sonship. Our belonging to Him is not confirmed by ink under our skin, but by the Holy Spirit in our hearts.

The Despair of the Prophets of Baal

Let us recall the prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. When the worshipers of Baal tried desperately to gain their god's attention, hoping he would ignite the sacrificial fire, they began to cry aloud and cut themselves with knives and lances according to their custom, until the blood gushed out on them. They thought that self-inflicted harm and physical pain would bring them an answer. But the heavens remained silent; no fire came.

The living God does not demand self-destruction from us. He does not expect us to ruin or distort our bodies to earn His love or attention. His grace is a gift given to those who come before Him with a broken spirit, not a broken body.

True Beauty Lies in the Heart

In the search for beauty, the human heart often turns to external solutions. But the Bible teaches us wherein lies the true value of a woman — and more broadly, of any person. Holy Scripture warns against excess jewelry, gold, pearls, and fine clothing. This does not mean that caring for oneself is wrong, but that our focus must be in the right place.

True beauty is imperishable. It is the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. When we try to raise our worth through artificial ornaments or permanent marks, we often forget to develop what is truly important: our character, goodness, faith, and love.

God has made us wonderfully. Let us trust His handiwork and take care that our inner beauty shines brighter than any external ornament or mark.

Help us keep our bodies, as temples of Your Holy Spirit, pure and holy. Grow in us this true, imperishable beauty — a gentle and quiet spirit, and a good character. Deliver us from the need to prove our worth to others through external means, and let us find deep peace in the knowledge that we belong to You.

Sermon for Doubters: Faith or Conscious Submission

Dear seekers and doubters,

Around us are many who look at the starry sky or the complexity of nature and say: "God is all of this. God is the universe, existence itself, cosmic energy." This is an appealing thought. It makes God into something all-encompassing, yet entirely impersonal. And when we try to communicate with such an invisible, abstract totality, we face a sharp problem: our prayers and their answers often seem wrapped in uncertainty and randomness.

Was our prayer answered, or was it just a coincidence? Are we engaging in spiritual cherry-picking – consciously or subconsciously selecting those life events that support our faith, while closing our eyes to those that do not? This is an honest question that every thinking person should ask themselves. Blind belief, where we ignore reality and logic, is not what we are called to.

The Theological Delusion and Spiritual Bureaucracy

For nearly two centuries, many scholars, from the 19th-century thinker Ernest Renan to the modern New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman, have fed a popular theological myth. They have drawn a strict distinction between the so-called human Jesus, depicted by the earlier synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke), and the clearly divine Jesus, who appears only in the later Gospel of John. Ehrman has argued that the historical Jesus considered himself an apocalyptic prophet or messiah, but not God. According to his view, the idea of divinity arose later among His followers as they tried to make sense of His death and resurrection. This is like man's attempt to squeeze the Original Source back into a human, understandable "cause-and-effect" box – a marketplace where Jesus is simply an exemplary moral teacher whose actions we must copy.

When we read in the New Testament about the breaking of bread, it is crucial to understand that bread was not baked back then as we do today in a modern factory.

The dough was not leavened with modern store-bought yeast, because it was simply unknown. Although sheep's and goat's sour milk and yogurt-like products were well known in the Middle East, they were not typically used to raise daily bread dough either.

Bread was leavened with sourdough (in Ancient Greek, zymē). Every time a mother baked bread, she left a small piece of fermented dough behind for the next time. This old piece of dough, fermented by wild natural yeasts and lactic acid bacteria, was mixed with new flour. Water and the warm climate did their work. This old piece of dough was strong; it carried "life" inside it and could raise a whole new large batch of dough.

What kind of bread was eaten 2000 years ago?

• Barley bread: This was the daily food of the poorer people, fishermen, and simple folk. The five loaves with which Jesus fed the five thousand were precisely barley loaves.
• Wheat bread: This was affordable only to wealthier people.

He wants to change us through the Holy Spirit from the inside out, so that our character becomes rich, nourishing, and refreshing to others – just like genuine and pure food in which there is nothing hidden.

Let us not feed ourselves with the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, which puffs us up outwardly but leaves us empty within. Let us be genuine, transparent, and nourishing to our neighbors.

The Monastery Cat, the Synagogue Ticket, and the Endless Void

Dear fellow travelers, seekers, and yearners of pure truth,

Have you ever felt that the more you engage with spirituality, the heavier your burden becomes? We step onto a spiritual path to find peace, but very soon we find ourselves carrying a whole backpack of new rules, dogmas, karma debts, and expectations. The original, quiet connection with the Creator gets buried under the noise of rituals and fears.

Man fears the spacious, unconditional love of the Creator. This freedom is too vast and incomprehensible for our ego. Therefore, we instinctively try to build a spiritual marketplace between the Creator and ourselves – a toll booth where we can pay with our good deeds, long prayers, or self-torture, to feel secure. We prefer to pay mediators rather than step in trust into the open arms of the Creator.

But Holy Scripture and the history of the world's greatest mystics show us that the Creator closed this marketplace long ago. Let us look today at how three ancient stories from different cultures reflect precisely the same liberating truth that Christ brought us.

The First Lesson: The Absurd Ticket and the Empty Temple

An old Jewish story tells of a man who runs to the synagogue entrance on the holiest day of the year, when prayer seats are paid. He begs the usher at the door to let him go in for just a moment to deliver a vital message to a friend. The usher looks at him sternly and says: "Alright, I'll let you in for a minute without a ticket. But heaven help you if I catch you praying in there on the sly!"

This joke is ridiculous, but it is a precise picture of what happens when mediators hijack faith. Prayer – our direct, living connection with the Original Source – has been turned into a paid premium service. This is the same absurd picture that appeared to Jesus when He entered the temple of Jerusalem. This temple was supposed to be a house of prayer, but at its head sat moneychangers. Most tragically – in the Holy of Holies of the temple, there was no longer even the Ark of the Covenant! The priests were selling tickets to the people for a high price into a spiritual system that was actually empty inside.

When Jesus overturned those tables, it was not just a fit of anger. He dismantled that paywall. He said: no tickets are sold to the Creator's presence. The Creator does not need your doves or your coins. The Word became flesh to be itself the living and only door, open to all for free.

The Second Lesson: The Holy Monastery Cat, or Spiritual Bloatware

How do these mediators and rules emerge in the first place? An old Indian story tells of an ashram where, during evening meditation, the monastery cat tended to run around making noise. The pragmatic master ordered the cat to be tied to a pole during meditation. Years went by, the master died, and the cat died. But the next generation of monks bought a new cat to tie to the pole every evening, and wrote long treatises on the cosmic significance of this ritual.

This is a picture of what Jesus called the "leaven of the Pharisees." A simple, temporary, and earthly solution is turned into a holy rule, a dogma. We overload our hearts and our faith with things that have nothing to do with the Creator's love. Jesus delivered us from this spiritual clutter. A free person does not need ritual cats or poles. They are like "pure sour cream" -- simple, genuine, and without masks. They respect earthly laws and their culture, they work and take care of their families, because this physical world is the Creator's holy design, but they do not make an earthly idol out of material things.

The Third Lesson: Deleting the Internal Ledger

Even if we free ourselves from external rituals, a secret internal trading often remains in us. We keep tabs in our heads.

Emperor Wu of China once asked the great Zen master Bodhidharma: "I have built temples and supported hundreds of monks. How much holy merit have I accumulated by this?" Bodhidharma answered coldly: "None whatsoever. Endless void. Nothing holy." Similarly, a monk once asked another, who had helped a young woman over a muddy puddle in a downpour: "How could you break the rules and touch a woman?" The first monk replied: "I left her back at the crossroads hours ago. Are you still carrying her with you?"

Dear listeners, herein lies the ultimate secret of freedom! The Apostle Paul says that on the cross, the Creator has "wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us" (Col 2:14). God has deleted your spiritual ledger. But have you deleted it?

When you do good, do you expect the universe to smile at you now? When you err, do you carry your guilt around for days, like that second monk carried the forbidden woman in his thoughts? Jesus taught us to live in a completely selfless, hidden mode: "Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."

The Creator's code, written in your heart, is much larger than your fears. True rebirth means stepping into objective uncertainty, trusting that you are held. You no longer have to collect points. You do not have to buy a ticket. You do not have to tie a cat to a pole or carry yesterday's mud into today.

The spiritual marketplace is closed forever. Step into the spaciousness of the Creator's grace and simply live. Amen.

• Matthew 21:12: Jesus cleanses the temple. Abolition of the system of selling tickets and sacrifices. Deconstruction of exclusive paid access to the Creator.

We thank You that Your grace is not for sale and Your mercy is not limited by our rules. We thank You that You became flesh and broke open the locks that the Pharisees and merchants had built in front of Your door.

Give us wisdom to notice when we are "tying cats to poles" in our own lives – when we turn Your freedom into burdensome routines and futile fears.

Teach us to press the delete button of forgiveness, both for ourselves and for others.

Help us leave behind our ledgers of worry and live in this beautiful, physical world genuinely, doing good with a pure heart, without expecting a reward.

Exploring Creation and Discerning Spirits

Dear listeners.

Looking at modern Western Christianity, we often see a sad and restrictive pattern: faith has become an intellectual, logical system, and everything inexplicable, mystical, or foreign is often fearfully labeled as superstition or even satanic. We have been taught to fear the invisible world, instead of exploring and perceiving it with God-given courage.

However, there is a deep and hypocritical contradiction here in what we fear and what we blindly trust.

Distinguishing Between Hardware and Ideology

Think about our everyday tools. We use Apple smart devices, Google services, Meta platforms, and Amazon servers. The founders, management, advertisements, and corporate culture of these large corporations often support and fund ideologies that are in direct contradiction with Christian family teachings, the Creator's ingenious design, and basic ethics. These systems propagate values that deconstruct human nature.

Yet, we do not fear them. We have Bible applications on our smartphones, we broadcast church services on Facebook, and we give tithes through digital financial platforms. We instinctively understand that technology is inherently neutral "hardware" and an interface. We accept them, peacefully setting aside their background spirituality and the personal ideology of their authors. We know that a silicon chip and software code do not automatically carry the creator's "spiritual virus".

But when it comes to other, older symbol systems — which are often mappings of psychology, human experience, or the rhythms of nature — we are suddenly seized by panic. When someone mentions archetypal cards, such as Tarot, whose creators were men with occult backgrounds like Arthur Edward Waite or Aleister Crowley, the average Christian immediately slaps a satanic label on it and runs away in fear. We forget our earlier logic and fear that the spirituality of its author has permanently stuck to a piece of cardboard.

But objects do not carry spiritual karma. The core of Christianity is that the Creator became flesh, and the death and resurrection of Jesus broke the system of continuous trading and spiritual debt attached to things. A physical object—be it a coin, a die, sheep's wool, a smartphone, or a card with pictures — does not bind the user to the spiritual legacy of the author.

The Creator's "Standard Library" and Freedom from Mediums

God did not create the world flat and dull. He created a universe that pulses with life and regularities.

The children of Israel were bitten by snakes. God commanded Moses to make a bronze snake and raise it on a pole. Whoever looked at it lived. This strongly resembles sympathetic magic (curing poison with a similar symbol). What saved was not the statue itself, but the act of trust (looking) and the direct connection to God's promise. When centuries later people began burning incense to this bronze statue (turning it into a religious mediator or part of a marketplace), King Hezekiah ordered it to be smashed (2 Kings 18:4) because it had become "religious bloatware".

In the Book of Job, God calls upon man to observe nature. He does not say that exploring nature leads us away from Him; on the contrary, He says: ask the animals and they will teach you!

Before the Holy Spirit was poured into every believer's heart, humans needed physical interfaces to understand the Creator's will. Gideon used sheep's fleece. Old Testament priests carried the Urim and Thummim in their breastplates — essentially a bivalent (Yes/No) physical symbol system. Jesus Himself told the Pharisees: you know how to read the face of the sky and the weather, but not the signs of the times! He did not forbid reading signs, but pointed out the superficiality of their perception.

John 9 - Jesus spits on the ground, makes mud, and smears it on the blind man's eyes. Outwardly, this looks like shamanism! Man was originally created from dust (Genesis). Jesus performs a new act of creation using mud and water.

Today, in the New Covenant, we have a direct connection—God speaks through the heart and spirit. Man can identify with Jesus because He was like us. We no longer need external mediums or crutches to communicate with the Creator. In the spiritual life, the principle applies: do not introduce new dependencies if the system's "standard library" — the Holy Spirit — does the job.

However, the fact that we do not need these tools does not turn these neutral mappings into demonic traps. If a person observes psychological symbols or personality archetypes with sober discernment and without fear, to better understand human existence, it is simply data collection.

Knowing the laws of nature is one thing, but witchcraft—whether labeled "white" or "black"—is something entirely different. What is decisive is not a piece of cardboard, but whom you ask for the answer. If you turn to the "spiritual marketplace" to trade with mediators—that is witchcraft. Witchcraft is essentially an attempt to bypass the Creator's authority.

But if you use an empirical tool to understand human nature while belonging with your heart to Christ, that is freedom.

Test the Spirits, Do Not Flee

Modern Christianity tends to lightly condemn people who are sensitive to the spiritual world or who use different tools to map their inner world. We fearfully call this "foreign spirituality" and pull away.

But what does the Word of God say? 1 John 4:1 does not say: "Flee from every spirit." It says: "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits."

Testing requires contact, exploration, and communication. You cannot test or discern something that you frantically fear or refuse to learn anything about. Discerning spirits is a gift of the Holy Spirit, a tool that requires adult maturity, not an excuse to fearfully push away everything that does not fit into our customary theology.

We serve a God who is over every spirit and every force of nature. We do not have to trade in the spiritual world, nor fear the rhythms of nature or neutral tools created by other people — be it a silicon chip or a card with pictures. We must learn to read God's two books anew: Scripture and Creation. And we must do this with an open heart, a sharp spirit, and absolutely without fear.

  "...to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits..." This is the New Testament's strongest parallel to the neutrality of technology and symbols. In the early church, many feared eating meat sold in the market because it was dedicated to pagan deities (the author's or producer's "false spirituality"). Paul deconstructs this fear: an idol is not something that really exists, and meat is simply matter (hardware). An object in itself does not carry demonic contamination. Sin occurs only when a person themselves goes to the temple and participates in a ritual, i.e., knowingly goes to the spiritual marketplace to trade.

• Titus 1:15

  "To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure, but both their minds and consciences are corrupted." Physical objects, be it a silicon chip or a printed picture, cannot be morally corrupted or demonic. Spiritual corruption lies in the human mind, egoism, and intentions, not in a passive tool.

• Acts 17:28 (Quoting pagan poets)

  "For in him we live and move and have our being, as some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.'" Paul stands in Athens at the Areopagus and quotes pagan poets (Epimenides and Aratus) dedicated to Zeus, the chief Greek god. He does not fear that the poet's polytheistic or occult background will attach false spirituality to his sermon. He takes the archetypal "tool" they created and uses it to proclaim the truth, separating the text from the religion of its original author.

• Colossians 2:15 and 2:20-21 (Freedom from fearing things)

  "He has disarmed the rulers and authorities... Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 'Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!'?" This passage emphasizes Jesus' victory, which canceled karma logic and the need to fear matter. A Christian is free from fear-based religion that constantly fears touching something "wrong."

• Augustine's Concept

  "Spoiling the Egyptians" The Church Father Augustine (in his work De Doctrina Christiana) referred to the event in Exodus 12:35–36, where the Israelites, upon leaving Egypt, took the Egyptians' gold, from which God's tabernacle was later built. Augustine explained based on this that Christians must take the "gold" of the pagan world (logic, science, symbols, psychology) and use it in the service of truth. If a secular thinker or occultist has mapped a true law of nature or psychological pattern, it is gold originally created by God. It does not need to be feared simply because it was temporarily in the hands of the "Egyptians" (false ideology).

A Prayer for Right Discernment

Almighty Creator, Lord of heaven, earth, and all things invisible. We thank You for this wonderful, deep, and multi-layered world that You have created.

Forgive us if we have, out of fear or ignorance, diminished the vastness of Your creation.

Teach us to perceive Your creation, to test the spirits, and to understand the truth without prejudice. Protect us from malicious and selfish deception, but open our eyes and hearts so that we may see the spiritual world as You see it. In the name of Jesus Christ.

The Zeitgeist and God's Relationship with Satan

Dear brothers and sisters.

There is a great paradox in our spiritual life. On one hand, we know that God has created matter and the physical human being. He has given us permission to find joy in earthly gifts, to work with our hands, and to live here under the sun.

On the other hand, Holy Scripture continuously reminds us that the fleshly is within Satan's sphere of influence, and we are called to leave the fleshly behind, for the Kingdom of God is within ourselves. How do we keep these two in balance? The answer lies in understanding the rules and authorities of the spiritual world.

Jesus repeatedly calls Satan "the prince of this world." This is a title referring to power, territory, and authority. After the fall of man, physical, fleshly reality fell largely under Satan's control. Although Satan's ultimate destiny is destruction and hell, we see something surprising when reading the Bible: God has a certain respect or deference toward him, at least within the limits of the given time and rules.

Consider the Book of Job. When the heavenly beings come before God, Satan also comes with them. God does not destroy him on the spot, nor does He shout at him. A dialogue takes place. It resembles a courtroom where both sides have the right to speak. God asks, "Where do you come from?" and Satan answers Him politely, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it." There are boundaries, contracts, and spiritual jurisprudence. God allows Satan to touch Job, while setting very clear boundaries that he must not cross.

We see the same in the New Testament. When Jesus goes into the wilderness, Satan comes to tempt Him. Jesus – the Son of God – could obliterate Satan with a single breath. Yet, He does not. Jesus respects the spiritual protocol. He converses with Satan and answers every temptation by quoting Holy Scripture. In this lies a profound lesson for us all: even heavenly authorities do not use raw force to violate rules. Evil is addressed politely, using the spiritual sword – the Word of God – rather than slander or anarchy.

This spiritual protocol lasts until the end of our age. Until then, the fleshly nature remains susceptible to Satan's influence. He is the lord of the Earth, to whom time has been given. But we, as humans, are not left in despair. Although we live in this fleshly and material body, the death on the cross and physical resurrection of Jesus Christ have changed the situation forever. With His blood, Jesus redeemed us free from Satan's legal rights.

Thanks to Christ, we can count ourselves as God's own. We are physical and can enjoy creation, but our spirit is no longer subject to the lord of this world. We do not need to fear Satan in panic, nor mock him pointlessly. Our task is to know the Word of God, to discern spirits, to respect the laws of the spiritual world, and to live in the knowledge that the Creator awaits the day when all enemies will be made His footstool.

Almighty God, we thank You that You are the only true and eternal Creator, in whose hands is all authority in heaven and on earth. We thank You for the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, through which You have delivered us from the power of the prince of darkness and brought us into Your kingdom of light.

Give us wisdom to understand the order and laws of the spiritual world. Help us to live in this material world in such a way that we do not fall into the slavery of the fleshly mind and temptations. Grant us a clear mind and courage to stand against every error by relying on Your Word, while maintaining spiritual dignity, peace, and politeness.

Keep us in the knowledge that the Kingdom of God is already within us.

Wine and Crystals – Two Facets of Spiritual Life

Dear listeners, dear fellow travelers!

Imagine for a moment two very different yet enchanting things: a wine glass sparkling in the sun and a clear quartz crystal or ruby coming from deep within the earth. Both catch the light, both are fruits of the Creator's brilliant design, and Holy Scripture speaks of both with great respect. But they represent two completely different dynamics of our lives. One is moving, fermenting, and unpredictable; the other is stable, transparent, and timeless.

Today, we look at how to find a balance between rejoicing in the beauty of this earthly life and inner, spiritual stability, so that we do not lose our sober mind nor fall back into exhausting spiritual trading.

The Fermenting Ego and the Illusion of "Babylonian Wine"

Human nature likes intoxication. We look for experiences that lift us above the everyday – be it secular achievements, praise, material success, or even religious and spiritual highlights. Holy Scripture warns against the "golden cup of Babylon." This is a symbolic cup full of the fermenting wine of the world and the ego – pride, thirst for power, and the illusion that we can control our own destiny and karma.

Into this golden cup is poured the currency of the spiritual marketplace. Religion has too often offered people a certain kind of spiritual intoxication: the illusion that if you do the right rituals, read enough prayers, and collect spiritual credit points, you will rise above others. But every intoxication is followed by a hangover. The hangover of spiritual trading is fear and debt slavery – the feeling that my ego is always in deficit, I am still not good enough, and the Creator is angry with me. Just as the prophet Hosea says: this fermenting wine takes away the last of our sober mind and leaves us on an endless spiritual hamster wheel.

Quartz and Silicon in Holy Scripture

In the Old Testament, in the Book of Exodus (Chapter 28), instructions are given for making the high priest's breastplate. Twelve stones were to be set there, symbolizing the tribes of the nation. Among them were amethyst, jasper, agate, onyx, and carnelian (sardius). These are all different forms of quartz, or silicon dioxide!

In the New Testament, in the Book of Revelation (Chapter 21), the New Jerusalem is described – a heavenly city whose foundations are built of the same stones: jasper, sardius, chrysoprase, amethyst. The sea spreading before the Creator's throne is "a sea of glass, like crystal" (Rev 4:6).

Why these minerals?

1. The optical transparency of quartz: Physically, this means that its electron energy levels are such that they allow visible light to flow through.
2. Quartz is of hardness 7 on the Mohs scale: Its chemical bonds (between silicon and oxygen) are so strong that it lacks actively reacting free electrons. It does not corrode; it does not easily react with acids or poisons.
3. The melting point of quartz is over 1600 degrees Celsius: It tolerates immense heat without breaking, often becoming even purer in fire.
4. The piezoelectric effect: Quartz has a wonderful property – when mechanical pressure is applied to it, an electrical charge is generated on its surface. It converts external pressure into regular, measurable oscillations (on which our watches and computers are based).

The essence of quartz is purity, durability, and, most importantly, the ability to let light flow through, refract, and reflect.

The Emerald in a Gold Setting

Yet matter, the physical world, and earthly joys are not inherently evil. Holy Scripture is a wonderfully healthy and down-to-earth book. In the wisdom books, such as the Book of Sirach, it is directly stated: "Wine is as good as life to a man... Wine was created to make men glad." The physical body, taste buds, music, and celebration are the Creator's holy creation. Christianity is not an invitation to live in gray and joyless asceticism, fleeing from the world.

Sirach brings us a beautiful image: "As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold, so is the melody of music with pleasant wine." Here, wine and crystal meet. The Creator wants us to enjoy life – to rest with friends, do honest manual work, enjoy Estonian summer evenings and good food.

But here is a big "but." God always looks beneath the surface. Man sees what is before the eyes – the sparkling cup, external success, or Pharisaic piety – but God looks at the heart. He looks for the stability of a crystal in our heart. If wine symbolizes the changing emotions and pleasures of life, which can quickly go sour or poison us, crystal is immutable. It does not ferment. It lets the light shine through.

Exiting the Marketplace: Grace is Transparent, Not Fermenting

Jesus did not come to create a new religious fermentation process, nor did He add the "leaven of the Pharisees" which inflates the ego and makes one look down on others. He stepped into the temple and overturned the merchants' tables. He canceled the certificates of debt and closed the spiritual marketplace.

Grace is like a pure, clear quartz crystal. It is stable and transparent. When you understand that through Jesus your accounts with the Creator are already settled and you no longer have to fear, the need to "ferment" and compete with others disappears. You no longer have to collect your good deeds in a folder of pending receipts, hoping for a cosmic raise. You can be a completely genuine, authentic human being – like "pure sour cream," without masks and religious hypocrisy.

True spirituality does not scream, does not frighten, nor intoxicates itself with its own holiness. It is calm and sober. It is the knowledge that the Creator's love is an eternal and stable base on which one can rely in any life storm.

Practical Application: A Sober Mind and a Warm Heart

How do we live this freedom today, here in the Estonian cultural space?

First, enjoy the physical world with gratitude. Work honestly, love your family, enjoy music, good food, and, why not, a glass of wine, as Sirach says – moderately and at the right time. Matter is a blessing, and enjoying it without fear honors the Creator.

Second, keep your heart free from "Babylonian wine." Do not let yourself be intoxicated by power, other people's opinions, or religious intimidation. Respect state laws, be a polite neighbor, and a citizen active in peace, but do not download the world's anxiety or anger into your heart.

Third, let your heart be like smoothed lime plaster or pure crystal. When Jesus says "do not let your left hand know what your right is doing," He is inviting you to do good out of pure flow. You help your neighbor because it is your genuine nature, not to enter it into your spiritual ledger. Rest in this clarity. Your debts are paid. The marketplace is closed. What is left is freedom, a sober mind, and Grace.

I thank You for the beauty, colors, tastes, and music of the physical world.

Thank You for giving us matter, that we might rejoice in it and respect Your brilliant design.

Forgive me if I have let myself be intoxicated by the pride of the ego, the fears of the world, or tried to buy Your love with my actions.

Thank You for canceling our certificates of debt on the cross and closing forever the spiritual marketplace where we tried to prove ourselves.

Make my heart clear and stable like crystal. Cleanse me from religious leaven and grant me a calm, sober spirit.

Help me live each of my days in Estonia genuinely, courageously, and with gratitude, letting Your mercy shine through my daily deeds.
